Walkthrough of the Final Story Mission in GTA III

Before starting the mission, make sure that you have full health and armor. Also, don’t use the vehicles that you don’t want to lose — every vehicle that you use in this mission will disappear after its completion.

After the end of the cutscene, run to the garage where an armor and a Cartel Cruiser are located. Pick up the armor, get in the car and drive to the gate. On the way try to crush the Cartel members which will attack you.

When you leave the gate, in a short cutscene you will see a helicopter. Do not pursue it, first, you need to get some weapons. If you collected all the hidden packages, go to your house and pick up the weapons there. If not, pick up M16 and a rocket launcher in the places shown in the screenshots below. Whichever option you choose, be as quickly as possible. You have only seven minutes to complete the mission.

Further, go to the foot of the dam. The entrance is blocked by two Cartel Cruisers and is guarded by two Colombians with AK-47s. They can be shot from a long distance with an M16, then they will not open fire. Shoot in short bursts to save ammo. Don’t forget to pick up their guns.

Advance to the dam, pick up a sniper rifle among the trees and shoot the four Colombians shown in the screenshots below.

Stand next to the Cartel Cruisers and blow up the truck with a rocket.

Cautiously move forward, neutralizing Colombians from a long distance. Pay attention to the red barrels — they are explosive and can be used to kill the Cartel members.

When you see Maria in a short cutscene, get ready to blow up a truck that will go on you. Be careful, the helicopter will periodically bombard you with rockets.

Continue to move forward, eliminating the Colombians. When walking up the stairs, be very careful: on the roof, you need to shoot three more thugs, and not injure Maria.

Pick up a rocket launcher and shoot down the helicopter. If you can’t hit a helicopter with missiles, use small arms. Destroying of the helicopter completes the mission.

Trivia

• If you have a tank, you can use it to perform the mission easily. It will allow you to quickly and safely reach Maria.
• The model of the Сartel helicopter is identical to the model of a police helicopter, except the color.
• Chronologically, this is the last story mission in the 3D-universe.
